This is me standing in front of my '96 Ford Contour GL on my 18th birthday (it was my present from my parents). It wasn't the best car ever, but it got me from point A to point B, and it's a nicer car than a lot of other college cars. It ran really well, got pretty good gas mileage, etc, but then something happened to it...

No, it had nothing to do with my inability to pay attention to what's in front of me...

Looks pretty normal here...

What's Carolyn looking at so intensely, and what the hell is up with the antenna?

Could it have anything to do with the fact that the back of the car is nowhere to be found?

Alright, here's the story. Last Thursday night a little before midnight, so between Thursday/Friday, my car was parked in front of my parents house. I was not in the car, it was parked, going 0 miles per hour, getting infinite miles per gallon (or none, depending on how you look at it, not the point), etc. All of a sudden my parents heard a loud thud and thought it was my sister slamming a door downstairs, but then the phone rang. The neighbor from across the street told my parents that someone just did a hit and run on their daughter's car, so they called the cops. We probably wouldn't have been able to figure out who had hit the car if it weren't for a trail of radiator fluid leading up to his house (the trail will proabably be here all summer, so if you're ever in Sioux Falls, check it out). Story ends, the guy's 45, was completely drunk, ended up going to jail for the night because he had like 7 offenses or something. So yeah, that's what happened to my old car. Moral of the story, don't drink and drive, and if you do, make someone's day by hitting their parked car so they can get a new one for free (actually there's a $2500 difference in my case, but I'll take a '99 Pontiac Grand Am for $2500)!

In loving memory
